Termly Reflections
Term 1
This was the term that marked the start of the school year, and I was still having the holiday blues, so I initially could not concentrate on my work at first. However, as time went by, I slowly put in more heart and effort into my work. We were being taught on atoms, elements and chemical bonding. These subjects did not sound interesting at first, but after I was introduced to it, I felt that the topic was quite intriguing and complex. I was amazed by the amount we had to study at first, because the notes were about 20 pages thick:) and it looked scary. However, the theories became mostly second nature to me after much revision. Still there were some doubts which I failed to clarify, and I did not listen properly in class. As a result, I got an A2 only for my test (half mark to A1!). I learnt that I should put in as much effort as I can during my work as I only tend to do assignments and homework properly but classwork sloppily, as I normally waited for the teacher to go through. This caused me to get unsatisfactory marks. I learnt that I should study harder for tests and give my full attention during lessons.

Term 2
We were finally taught on physics! Yay! I have been wanting to learn physics for very long, especially optics, which was the 'focus' for this term. Chemistry had never been of much interest to me, so I had been waiting for physics and biology to come by in the syllabus. For physics, we spent most of the time in the laboratory, experimenting with the same ray box, few pieces of glass blocks and power supplies for quite some time. Nevertheless, it was the first time I ever took practicals seriously (partly due to the fact that I learnt my lesson from last term). I found out that practicals also teach important concepts in the process. However, acids and bases was back. It was the chemistry topic for term 2. Although I did not like it at first, I developed a liking for it after I had some understanding of it. Still, my results were disappointing. I only attained a B3! (half mark to A2 also) After much reflection, I realised that I had misconceptions about reflection here and there and my chemistry needed brushing up. I had spent lesser time studying Science compared to the previous term, therefore, I am determined to really give it my all for term 3!

Term 3
My favourite term so far, it is filled with biology and physics! Bio is my favourite subject, and, this term was smooth-sailing for me. Although there were no more practicals, the intensive 'mugging' only of notes was surprisingly what I loved. Bio was really fun and I was taught so many stuff (even those that were out of syllabus). We focused on sexual reproduction in plants and lenses. The plants part was easier but the lenses diagrams were a little complicated, especially when the diagrams were shaped into challenging questions (some even required a combination of two cases of lenses!). I was determined to do my best this term, so I really put in effort and studied everything without leaving any room for doubt or careless mistakes (which I frequently make). I was fortunate enough to achieve a >90 A1! (i.e. 91). I was pretty proud of myself, but of course I have to take into consideration that the test was much easier than previous ones. Still, I hit my target! Now, it is all up to the final consolidation and revision of work for one final barrier to overcome: EOY. I hope I ace this exam and do myself proud:D

Term 4
Phew, now that school is over, and my Sec 2 journey has been brought to a close, I happen to reflect on my science experience in the final school term. It has been such a fruitful and memorable experience, including the super-fast paced studying I had to undergo. I consolidated all my knowledge (dug up notes and practice papers from previous terms) and studied everything once again. I realised that I had overlooked some small details (but still very important) during my previous terms of studying, and had a gruelling time memorising and grasping all the concepts. Up to the very last day before EOY, I was still memorising! Of course, after doing the past year revision papers, I finally understood how to answer questions concisely to obtain the maximum points possible. After the final dash, I challenged EOY.
I was very nervous during the exam, as the MCQ was a little tough, but I still gave it my all and answered to the best of my ability. Fortunately, after working so hard, I got an A1 (i.e. 78.5) which meant that my overall score was A1! Although it wasn't up to my expectations, I was satisfied, because I believe the end result is the amount of effort I have put in for the whole year.
All in all, this year has been wonderful, and has opened me up to newer dimensions in Science. I hope that next year, I will do even better, achieve great results and learn more interesting stuff!
